Tongan rugby players in top Japanese team

The Wild Knights rugby team of the Sanyo Electric Corporation became Japan's national rugby club champion for 2010, after beating the Toyota's Verblitz 22-17 on 28 February.

NZ qualifies for FIFA U-20 World Cup
Auckland, New Zealand:
Tonga's hope of qualifying for the Federation International Football Association FIFA U-20 women's World Cup in Germany in July came to a sudden end on January 25 when its U-20 women's team was thrashed by New Zealand 11-0.

Govt restructures Tonga Rugby Union
Nuku'alofa, Tonga: The Tongan government has decided to take over the preparation of a national team for the 2011 World Cup. Tonga's Minister of Finance, Hon. Afu'alo Matoto has been allocated as the Minister responsible for the restructuring of the Tonga Rugby Union.

Tonga wins AFL Oceania Cup
Nuku'alofa, Tonga:
Tonga's winning of the inaugural Australian Football League AFL Oceania Cup for Under 16s, and an impressive display of talent by Pacific Islands' players in Suva, Fiji last week, inspired the AFL to include a Pacific Islands team in the NAB AFL Under 16 championships to be held in Sydney, Australia in 2010.

Tonga's Bruno Banani (22) came in at 47th place out of 58 competitors in one of the lead-up competitions to the Luge World Cup, reported the Tonga Luge team from Igls, Austria recently.

Six outstanding Tongan athletes and one Life Member of Sports were officially induced to the Tonga National Sports Hall of Fame recently, by the Minister for Lands, Survey and Natural Resources, Lord Tuita.

Tonga Luge team surprises experts
Nuku'alofa, Tonga:
In Luge, athletes could travel at a speed of up to 90 mph when riding down the track on their sled. Luge athletes must be fearless, and have high athleticism to be able to master the extreme centrifugal forces. Both requirements lie within the Tongan genes. The first test run by the Tongan Luge athletes surprised Luge experts, and the Luge Association of the Kingdom of Tonga is optimistic of a superb performance by the Tongan team.
