The Government's Procurement Law and Rules
Pago Pago, Amerika Samoa: All we need now is for the government to announce that there is indeed a Procurement Law and Rules in writing as is followed by every government agencies. However, in the case of the Ashika, the Procurement Law and Rules were severely compromised or not followed at all. - Mafi 'o Amerika Samoa.

Our focus: minimize chances of another tragedy
Hong Kong, China: I would not discredit Ms. Mallaney's letter entirely – our focus should lie heavily with ensuring that we have all the available safety-nets in place (be it in a policy, process, system or others) thus ensuring that we can minimize the chances of a similar tragedy going forward. - Siaosi Chan.

No useful purpose for arguing
Salt Lake City, Utah, USA: The PM's Office and Ms. Mallaney of Global Integrity are busy ridiculing each other. (PM's Advisor . . . 05 Mar 2010). They have not stated any useful purpose for arguing in this forum. - Sione Akemeihakau Mokofisi.

Nothing really made sense
San Francisco, USA: Mr. Lopeti Senituli, I frankly didn't find any contradictions committed by Ms. Mallaney as you have stated in your letter of March 5, 2010. From the beginning to the end, I tried to figure out how did Ms. Mallaney contradict the Procurement System of the Government of Tonga. Nothing really made sense. I am sorry about that! All I can read in Ms. Mallaney's letter, were statements of facts made by her to defend the individuals. - Siosaia Fatani.

PM's advisor defends Government procurement system
Nuku'alofa, Tonga: Norah Mallaney's letter, "Major weaknesses in Tonga's procurement system" (3 Mar 10) is full of contradictions. Quite clearly she is peeved that the Hon Prime Minister's affidavit and evidence before the Commission did not lend support to her organisation's preconceived conclusion that the Government's procurement system is a ". . . porous legal and regulatory framework . . ." - Lopeti Senituli.

Slow down and have patience
Savai'i, Samoa: If you claim to promote "Integrity" then you should not pre-empt the 'due process'. As we say here in Samoa "Fai fai lemu" - which means "slow down & have patience". - Siu 'Ulua.

Lord Dalgety was under House Arrest
Tofoa, Tongatapu: I write to express my great concern about the incorrect . . . article in Matangi Tonga about Lord Dalgety being under 'House Arrest". If, you are not aware, Lord Dalgety was not under house arrest until Wednesday March 3 as your article states. - Afeaki.

Major weaknesses in Tonga's procurement system
Washington DC, USA: Tongans will always remember the day the Princess Ashika sank in the Pacific waters. However, as the inquiry has progressed, we were surprised to read the Prime Minister's statement that individuals' decisions, and not institutional government weakness, were to blame for the tragic accident. - Norah Mallaney, Global Integrity.

Absolute Monarchy not a trait of a free democratic society
Salt Lake City, Utah, USA: The people's voice (Legislative Assembly) must challenge His Majesty's appointments of all judgeships as a matter of transparency in the "checks and balances" guarantee between the Three Branches of Government. The status quo is an "Absolute Monarchy" paradigm, not the traits of a free democratic society. - Sione Akemeihakau Mokofisi.

Futa, we miss you
Paris, France: Futa is gone, and it is hard for his family, for everyone in Tonga and for his friends living thousands of kilometers away to realize he's not here anymore. We deeply miss him - Marie-Claire Bataille-Benguigui & Georges Benguigui.
