Japan grants $640,000 for 'Eua and Vava'u projects
Nuku'alofa, Tonga:
The Government of Japan has donated $640,000 pa'anga for the construction of new facilities at Niu'eiki Hospital, 'Eua, and the upgrading of water supply systems for villages in Vava'u.

New ferry to start Tonga service in November

Tonga's new inter-island ferry, currently being built in Japan, is scheduled to arrive in Nuku'alofa on 20 October this year to restart the domestic inter-islands ferry service in the first week of November.

Food is in short supply on Niuatoputapu following last month's tsunami that devastated the coastal areas, destroying many homes and fishing boats and nets, along with the pandanus trees which were the source of the islanders weaving income.
