Proposed new parliamentary system solidifies Tonga's social structure
Nuku'alofa, Tonga: Since Tonga's Constitutional and Electoral Reform Commission published its 'Final Report and Recommendations' on November 5 last year, Tonga's parliament has been struggling to agree on a new system of government, expected to be in place before a General Election scheduled for November or December 2010.

Nuku'alofa, Tonga: Tonga's parliament discovered an elusive unity of purpose last month, when after months of frustrating debate over the direction of reform the House led by the Prime Minister, decided almost to a man, that some set beliefs and traditions should be upheld and the Constitution should not be changed to allow Tongan women equality under the law. House to resume on October 8
Nuku'alofa, Tonga: The Tonga Legislative Assembly will resume sitting on Thursday, October 8 after a two and a half weeks adjournment that allowed members to attend parliamentary meetings abroad, and extra time to to make a tsunami response.

Government urges House to agree on November 2010 election
Nuku'alofa, Tonga: November 2010 has been set by the Tongan government as the date for an election of Tonga's new parliament, the Deputy Prime Minister Dr Viliami Tangi told the Tongan Parliament on Monday, September 14 and he urged the House that instead of waiting for the Constitutional and Electoral Reform Commission to present its draft final report in November they should move ahead an amend Clause 77 of the Constitution, to enable the Prime Minister to set a date for the 2010 parliamentary election.From the House.
