IT has been said that , "if it looks like a duck, walk like a duck and quack like a duck, more than likely, it is a duck". Incompetence in any language and form is still incompetence.
An employee is incompetent if he or she does not make an effort to learn and master his or her traits and improve upon it.
On the on going Ashika saga, we hear from a Minister of Transportation, Transport Secretary, Director of Marines, Port Authority officials, Director of Shipping Corporation, and many other officials who either have not read or are unfamiliar with the Shipping Act and the Public Service Act, the Standard Operation Procedures and Guidelines for their jobs. This is incompetent to me.
You argued that the PRs and political leaders are on a vacation (vocation), and therefore have an excuse for being incompetent?
As a Marine Corps Officer, it was not just a job to lead Marines. It was an honor, duty and a calling to be responsible for the lives of young Marines under my command. I don't see why an elected official should feel any different. After all, the lives and future of a country is in their hands. When public servants fail to "provide due diligence, forgets their public service obligations" and dishonorably serve those that elected them to office, the Kingdom of Tonga buries 74 of its sons and daughters in the ocean near Ha'apai.
Tuisoso, please do not join those who add more salt to the wounded hearts of those whose love ones perished with the Ashika by giving excuses to those responsible. Let's not aggravate the deteriorating social and economic situation in Tonga by explaining away the incompetency of our leaders.
