Special Weather Bulletin Number Three for Tonga on Tropical Cyclone "Mick" issued from NWFC Fua'amotu at 12:30pm (15/12/2009):
A tropical cyclone warning is now in force for Tongatapu and 'Eua.
Tropical Cyclone Mick centre was re-located near 19 decimal 5 south 179 decimal 6 east or about 540km west-northwest of Nuku'alofa at 12:00pm today. Cyclone is weakening and continues to move southeast at 10 knots. Close to its centre the cyclone is estimated to have average winds of 35 to 40knots with momentary gusts to 60 knots.
If the cyclone maintains its current intensity and its forecast track, then it may bring damaging gale force winds over Tongatapu and 'Eua groups in the next 24 to 36 hours.
For Tongatapu group:
Easterly winds becoming fresh and gusty. Winds may increase to damaging gale force with average speeds to 35 knots with momentary gusts to 60 knots from tomorrow. Periods of rain, heavy at times with squally thunderstorms. Rough seas, becoming very rough with a moderate northerly swell developing.
For the remaining islands of Tonga:
Moderate east to northeast winds fresh and gusty at times gradually turning northerly. Cloudy with occasional showers and a few thunderstorms. Moderate to rough seas.
